If even 10 years ago, an all-electric car was considered a luxury and was presented in single copies, now every respected brand has at least one all-electric model in its arsenal. One of such examples was the new electric Mazda MX-30, based on the CX-30 model with an internal combustion engine, but with obvious modifications for the benefit of an electric car.

As we said earlier in one news article, the official premiere of the Mazda MX-30 2020 electric car took place at the Tokyo Motor Show. The manufacturer did not drag out the time for a long time, simultaneously presenting the concept and prototype of the electric car. The main detail that distinguishes the new electric car from other serial models of the company is the side doors, they open in different directions. According to various sources, the official start of sales of the Mazda MX-30 electric car will take place in the first half of 2020. The novelty will arrive in Russia towards the end of 2020.

Many experts initially assumed that the electric car from the Mazda company would be made in the form of a sedan or a coupe, since the company does not have much experience in developing in this direction. Still, the manufacturer did not invent a bike from scratch and immediately presented a working prototype of the production Mazda MX-30 model. The appearance of the new electric car is made in the style of the company and reminds many of the previously presented crossover CX-30.

Generally speaking, about the new electric car Mazda MX-30, it is original. Front and rear, as expected, are equipped with LED headlights and feet, and the side section stands out with unusual suicidal doors. To understand how the new all-electric crossover Mazda MX-30 will delight the buyer, consider the appearance in detail.

Whatever one may say, but the front end of the new Mazda MX-30 electric crossover is made in the style of the brand. The designers added stretched optics, with pronounced round lenses and LED daytime running lights. The main and very unusual difference is the pseudo-lattice, which fulfills the decorative part more than the functional one. There is also a minus, it was originally assumed that a special logo was used for the electric car, which would distinguish the new product from models with an internal combustion engine. But, as time has shown, the designers used a standard logo.

The design of the front part is accentuated by a massive bumper, with additional air vents and a black plastic edging. The hood of the Mazda MX-30 electric crossover resembles many fellows with an internal combustion engine. Raised center section and sharp curves from the grille to the A-pillars. Do not forget that under the hood of this electric car there is an additional trunk, and not an electric motor or internal combustion engine.

Most of all attention is attracted by the side part of the Mazda MX-30 2020. Despite the fact that the car is five-door, the second row of doors is not immediately noticeable. There is no standard partition between the front and rear doors, and there are also no door handles on the rear doors. The answer to this situation is quite simple, the engineers decided to use the suicidal doors that were previously used in the sports RX-8. The front doors open in a standard way, but the rear doors open against the movement and only when the front doors are open.

Despite this move, the side mirrors of the new Mazda MX 30 were decided to be placed on the doors, and not in the corner of the front windows. According to the standard, the color of the body and the legs of the holder are black. The standard set of mirrors includes the most modern functionality, including heating and automatic folding. As for the colors of the new Mazda MX-30, it is reliably known about three shades:

  • Moonstone White Metallic (white);
  • Magmarot Metallic (red)
  • Polymetal Gray Metallic (gray).


Most likely, after the official start of sales of the Mazda MX 30, the buyer will be offered a few more additional shades to choose from. Most likely it will be black, blue, brown and green. It is in such options that electric vehicles from other companies and competitors are most often offered. As well as an addition, the Mazda MX-30 buyer will be offered a choice of roof colors. The basic version of the electric car will receive a roof painted in the body color, and for a separate surcharge it can be painted black or gray. As for the charging hatch of the electric car, it was located on the rear right, in place of the usual gas tank hatch.

From behind, the new Mazda MX-30 electric crossover looks no less unique. The trunk lid, and the entire rear part, the designers tilted forward, thereby adding sporty features to the electric car. The hind feet of the crossover, one might say, were taken from existing models, a large, round outer part and an elongated inner part of the feet. The feet are based on LED elements.

Probably the most distinctive part of the Mazda MX-30 is the small nameplate on the trunk lid. It is he who points to the completely electric filling of the crossover, otherwise, having seen this model for the first time, it is difficult to distinguish it from production models with internal combustion engines. Finally, a massive bumper put an end to the design of the rear, only unlike the front, it is completely made of black plastic and repeats the plastic edging around the perimeter of the Mazda MX-30 2020.

Finally, consider the roof of the Mazda MX-30 electric car. As already mentioned, its rear part received a slight slope. As for the filling, while it is known about the large electric hatch, apparently, the panorama is not yet expected. Additional accessories include roof rails (not included in the set) and an antenna in the form of a shark fin.

The appearance of the new and first electric crossover Mazda MX-30 turned out to be unusual, modern and at the same time acceptable to buyers. As statistics already show, there will be good demand for this model, especially if we take into account the fact that many countries are switching to electric vehicles, and their cost is sometimes less than similar models with internal combustion engines.

If the appearance of the electric Mazda MX 30 surprised with individual parts of the body, then only environmental materials were used to create the interior, as well as recycled elements from secondary raw materials. The designers completely changed the salon, due to which it became unique and not like other models of the company. The front panel will not surprise with a special variety, the maximum that can be found is a multimedia system display, a pair of air ducts and a start / stop button for the engine.

As it should be for modern cars, the display of the Mazda MX-30 multimedia system turned out to be elongated horizontally. Depending on the configuration, it can be 8.8 ″ or 10.1 ″. The functionality includes voice control, mobile communication and remote control. The panel itself seems to be in two parts, with a plastic insert in the middle.

The central tunnel is very unusual. Firstly, it is raised on the seats, as if on an additional armrest, and secondly, the climate control panel is not based on a 7 ″ touchscreen display. In addition to temperature control, the display is tasked with controlling safety and comfort systems. Under the display, the designers of the Mazda MX-30 placed a charging panel, USB ports and wireless charging, as well as a place for storing gadgets.We can only wait for feedback on how convenient such a charging place will be, since it is not so easy to get a mobile phone or put it on charge at speed.

In addition to the small lever of the electric car's transmission, a "washer" and buttons for controlling various systems were located on the central tunnel. To once again prove the ecological direction, the designers sheathed all sorts of recesses with bark wood. On the one hand, this is a plus, as it is beautiful and modern, but on the other hand, on the practical side, such a set will quickly become unusable, and it will be difficult to replace or clean it. I would also like to note that initially an electric car is not intended for smokers, in the same way as there are no cup holders. The central tunnel of the Mazda MX-30 ends with a massive armrest, with a spacious compartment inside.

The interior of the Mazda MX-30 itself attracts no less interest, in particular the seats and interior trim. The front seats are more sporty than a luxury premium car. Low lateral support, high backrest and forward curved headrest. The driver's seat is electrically adjustable in 8 directions, but the front passenger's seat can be adjusted using a mechanical drive in 6 directions.

The second row of seats of the electric car is designed for 3 seats, with a folding ratio of 40/20/40. Despite the manufacturer's claims of sufficient space, the rear door opening is more likely designed for a passenger of standard physique. There is not a lot of free space on the 2nd row, and it will be uncomfortable for passengers with a height above 1.9 m. Following the design, attention is drawn to the upholstery of the interior and seats. I want to say right away that you should not expect much luxury or variety. According to the manufacturer, the door linings are made of recycled plastic, in fact, like many plastic interior parts. The seat upholstery will initially be fabric-only, although it is planned to add faux leather upholstery over time. The fabric itself, like plastic, was obtained by the manufacturer from recycled waste. Regarding the interior colors, there is not much variety, gray or black option. Thus, the interior of the electric crossover Mazda MX-30 will not flaunt luxury and inserts from expensive materials.

Finally, it remains to consider the driver's seat of the Mazda MX-30 2020 electric car. The dashboard of the novelty is completely digital, as befits a modern electric car. In addition to the standard settings, the driver is offered to customize at his own discretion by arranging certain indicators. For an additional fee, a projection display with navigation maps can be placed behind the tidy.

The steering wheel of the new Mazda MX-30 has received a minimum of improvements. Many already say that it was taken from the latest models of the company. As before, the steering wheel is designed for three spokes, two of which were taken under the touch-sensitive, function buttons. The steering wheel can be adjusted using a mechanical drive in depth and height. For convenience, the steering wheel is heated, and behind it are the gearshift paddles.

We can say that the interior of the Mazda MX-30 2020 electric car is modern, while there will be nothing luxurious in it. A minimum of modern technology, parts and paneling are made from recycled materials. Nevertheless, it is precisely such moments that will allow the manufacturer to keep the relatively low cost of the new Mazda MX-30 crossover.

As expected, the new Mazda MX-30 crossover will be only electric, so there can be no internal combustion engine or hybrid installation. There are, of course, its own nuances in the new product, despite the fact that the electric car belongs to the class of crossovers, it is close to many of the compact 3rd model of Mazda. The manufacturer so far in every possible way avoids the SUV prefix for the new MX-30 in advertising, but the truth cannot be hidden, since the body is significantly different from a compact hatchback or sedan.

The basis for the new electric car Mazda MX-30 was a specially developed platform. The front suspension is independent, based on MacPherson struts, but at the back there is a semi-independent suspension based on a beam that works in bending. Thanks to this arrangement, the chassis of the electric car has received driver settings that are not often found in competitors. According to the manufacturer, the architecture is the basis of e-Skyactiv, where a traction battery with a power frame is mounted in the floor.

There are also disadvantages, the battery capacity of the new Mazda MX-30 electric car is modest, only 35.5 kW * hour. As the statistics of measurements on the WLTP cycle show, the range of a fully charged battery will last for 200 kilometers. The heart of the electric car is one electric motor installed on the front axle. Nevertheless, the manufacturer does not exclude the appearance of modifications with two units installed on the front and rear axles, due to which all-wheel drive can be realized.

As a transmission, the engineers used a continuously variable variator system, but paired with the G-VCP (Vectoring Control Plus) system. The system controls and distributes traction between the wheels, depending on the load, travel speed and centrifugal force. As a rule, most often the system is triggered at the moment of entering a turn.

As standard, the Mazda MX-30 electric car is equipped with 18 ″ alloy wheels, with 215/55 tires. 19 ″ and 20 ″ discs will be optionally offered. The last and no less important detail for an electric car is the charging time. Using the CCS station (50 kW) for charging, from 0% to 80% it is possible to charge the battery in 30-40 minutes. If you use a 22 kW AC system, then on average it will take 4.5 hours to fully charge. So far, this is all the information that the manufacturer provided at the official premiere of the first electric car. This is enough to understand what the new product is capable of and what to expect. Representatives of the company promised to reveal more characteristics and dynamic indicators closer to the start of sales of the Mazda MX-30 2020.

Safety and comfort systems Mazda MX-30 2020

As with the specs of the Mazda MX-30, the manufacturer said little about the safety and comfort systems. Nevertheless, the list that will be in the standard set is ajar and it looks pretty good. So the list includes:

It can be seen that the list includes active and passive safety systems. With a high probability, we can say that a larger list will be offered in the production model.

Price and configuration Mazda MX-30 2020

The official start of sales of the Mazda MX-30 electric crossover is scheduled for spring 2020. According to preliminary data, in the European market, an electric car will cost from 33,990 euros in the First Edition configuration. This already indicates that there will be further variations on the performance of the crossover.

Whether the novelty will reach the territory of Russia is still unknown. Even if the manufacturer has such plans, the appearance of the Mazda MX-30 in the Russian Federation should not be expected until the second half of 2020. Closer to the start of sales, the manufacturer promised to open a full list of the characteristics and prices of the novelty.
