Armored vehicles have always been in great demand among influential people and cost a lot of money. One of these examples is the updated armored Range Rover Sentinel, which will be officially presented at the Office Security and Policing exhibition on March 7, 2019 in the UK (Farnborough). As the information shows, this Range Rover complies with the VR8 standard of the British defense industry. This standard implies the protection of passengers from small arms up to and including 7.62 mm, or from explosions equivalent to 15 kilograms of TNT.
In order to fit the armored Range Rover to the requirements of the standard, the manufacturer needed to install about 1 ton of additional armor, as well as update the reinforced glass around the perimeter. The company also said that, despite such large and powerful improvements, the new car fully retained the characteristics of an SUV. This means that the new product has no analogues in the class of SUVs and is the leader. Engineers in the full sense of the word reconfigured the braking system, suspension, as well as the control and stabilization system of the car on the road, taking into account all changes in weight and characteristics. Improvements were made to the Range Rover unit, a gasoline V6 with a capacity of 340 horses was installed on the previous similar version, the updated model acquired a V8 gasoline unit with a capacity of 380 hp. Considering the weight and characteristics, the updated armored SUV will be able to accelerate to the first 100 km / h in 10.4 seconds. The maximum speed of such a car will be 193 km / h.
Not without specific improvements, the updated "armored car" received the Run-Flat system, which allows the car to drive on punctured tires up to 48 km, without exceeding the speed of 80 km / h. For a separate surcharge, special flashing beacons, a siren, a public address system and thickened front windows (can be lowered only 15 cm) will be installed on board the Rover.
According to the status of the car, the designers have finalized the interior of the armored SUV, high-quality leather, natural wood inserts, as well as the most modern multimedia system based on two displays - this is the minimum list of what will be in the "armored car". As an addition to the SUV, we can note the new 4-zone climate control, electric seats with 24-way adjustment, massage, cooling and heating. There remains one undisclosed secret, what will be the total weight of the new SUV, representatives of the company promised to open this information after the official show, in the same way as the cost of the new Range SUV in armor.
