As a testament to the principle that beauty must be both inside and out, Toyota has released a second interior and exterior design for its sensational 2016 FT-1 sports concept. The design of the sports car was developed by Calty Design Research from the California town of Newport Beach, USA. The concept with a graphite body and light brown interior was first unveiled at the Gordon McCall's Motorworks Revival in early August 2014 in Monterey.

The original version of the Toyota FT-1 concept car fans had a chance to meet in Detroit at the 2014 North American International Auto Show. While Toyota Global Design is heading for a new direction, the FT-1's curved body lines are somewhat reminiscent of the 2000GT, Celica, Supra, MR2 and even the new Scion FR-S. The very first version of the Japanese sports car is striking in its frankly red color, but the second leaves an equally deep impression of the refined restraint of graphite shades. Both options are characterized by streamlined shapes, as if blinded by the wind. Upon first glance at the FT-1, there is no doubt that this car is simply built for the racetrack.

The interior color of the first and second Toyota FT-1 Graphite Concept sports car also has a significant difference. The interior of the original model is dominated by black, forcing the driver to concentrate on the road. An intriguing accent is created by painted red and gray metallic edging. The leather interior in the second version attracts attention with its emphasized natural color and authenticity. The defiant red piping has turned into a nice brown finish here. The intention of the designers becomes clear, who wanted to show the versatile direction of this concept. Enthusiasts who prioritize race car performance will opt for the 2016 FT-1 in black and red, while sophisticated styling enthusiasts will likely want a more relaxed premium option.

Toyota FT-1 showroom in superhero style

Designer Sellen Lee, who oversaw the interior design of the FT-1, drew her inspiration from the costumes of contemporary cinematic superheroes. To give the interior of the sports car a more perfect look, Sellen Lee and her assistants carefully selected materials, compared the thickness, texture and graininess of natural leather, trying to find the most optimal combination. Ventilation of car seats is carried out by means of a raised metal mesh. At the same time, metal perfectly complements natural leather. The dashboard also features leather upholstery with 3D laser-engraved embossing.

The female designer also goes a long way in creating stunning car interiors without using standard premium car interior styling techniques such as stitching or edging leather seats. According to Lee, the decision to use red leather trim for the first FT-1 and brown trim for the second came after seeing high-quality leather handbags in a very expensive department store.

Drivers driving a Toyota FT-1 can experience the difference in materials used, textures and color combinations. All this was the result of a well-organized teamwork of Toyota Global Design employees and exceeded all expectations.

Price and specifications

The car has about 485 horsepower. 3.5 liter engine, in-line. Vehicle weight - 1320 kg. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 4 seconds. The engine at the time of full-scale production of the car will clearly be a hybrid (gasoline-electric), similar to that of the BMW i8.

A full-fledged presentation of the car is planned already for 2016, perhaps even then it will be possible to buy it, which will cost at least 60 thousand dollars. Yes, the price for America and Europe is not small, but it will be worth it. In Russia and Ukraine, the car will be sold for over $ 90,000.
